Presentation of the process surrounding the publication of Jan Grarup’s new photobook And Then There Was Silence. Presented by publisher Søren Hørdum, Booklab.dk, and photo editor Tom Tramborg, The Mega Agency.

6pm—Keynote speech: Gerry Badger

Introduction by Mette Sandbye.

Gerry Badger is a British photographer, architect and photography critic. He has published a number of books, among them Collecting Photography (2002), The Genius of Photography (2007) and The Pleasures of Good Photographs (2010), for which he was given the Infinity Writer’s Award by the International Center of Photography (New York) in 2011. In addition, he co-wrote, with Martin Parr, the essential series and the reference book in the field of the photobook: The Photobook: A History (London: Phaidon Press, 3 volumes, 2004, 2006 and 2014).

Mette Sandbye is Professor of Photography Studies and Head of the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen. She has published numerous books and articles on contemporary art photography and photography as part of visual culture.

Artist talk with Architect, Professor Carsten Juel-Christiansen on the book Monument og Niche and the ideas behind the book and its photographic mode of expression.

2.30pm—Lecture: The Danish Art Scene of Late Modernity

A lecture that sheds light on the Danish art scene of late modernity focusing on artist books and photo books.
Speaker: Carsten Juhl, Author, Translator, former head of department, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

3.30pm—Book Presentation: Den Østjyske Millionby

Architects Boris Brorman Jensen, Tom Nielsen and Mathias Skafte Andersen present their 2017 publication Den Østjyske Millionby. The book offers a new perspective on urban development of the network society.

4.15pm—Panel Discussion: The Generic City and the Suburban Architecture of Late Modernity

Architects, urban theorists and artists discuss the generic city’s visual culture, the suburban architecture of late modernity and its representation in photography and photo books.

11.45am—Gallery talk

Thomas Wiegand on the exhibition Michael Schmidt: Photobooks at Aros Art Museum showcasing the main works from Schmidt’s oeuvre, especially on the themes of urbanity in general and the special situation of Berlin.

1pm—Cyanotype Workshop with artist Claudia Hausfeld

Location: Godsbanen/Mørkekammeret.
The workshop will explore the photographic technique called cyanotype, a medium which can be used without dark room or developing chemicals.
